Research On Islam And The Media

The attacks of 11 September (2001) (9/11) has caused the growth of ‘Islamaphobia’ and has left a large impact on the on how the world recognises them.  The events of the London bombings (7/7) also raised related awareness to Muslims in Britain. There are 1.6 million Muslims living in Britain and at least 46 percent of them were born in the UK. After the attacks of 9/11 and 7/7 Muslims have became the targets of suspicion and have suffered and struggled their place in the general public. The representation of Islam and Muslims are the main focus and the subject of ‘pointing the finger’ which many may accuse the British media of being biased.

In this research I am mainly looking to cover the areas of how Muslims are represented in British Television and whether the news is selective on news worthy material just to target their audience.I have chosen to do this on this specific topic as I am interested in the way that the media controls its audience and  how negative portrayals of Islam has become the norm.
I am reading a book called Pointing The Finger: Islam and Muslims in the British Media which seems to be very interesting.
