Feedback From The First Pitch...N01
After having to pitches one which was a documentary and the other a drama my lecturers gave us their opinions and which traffic light indicated it was a piece well worth taking further action for in the production process. Nadine had stated as far as she knew, since the last pitch she had and the feedback we received from Roddy, she had to go back to Jazzy band group that she decided to work on and gather further information that will grab the audience is attention.

What is happening now is that, we have to re-pitch the idea again this time and what we did was met up with the guy who Nadine wanted to focus on and we decided on a few interesting stories about him which she will be putting together and ready for the pitch on Wednesday or Friday.

The Pitch Was About A Day In The Life Of R.S.M Squad.
Not many people love to hear the word of God, mostly because it sounds boring and out of tune to their daily living. But a music band has made this possible to get the message across. Not only hearing of the word through its lyrics but also believing it and it is express through music and in the form of Soul, RnB, Hip Hop, etc., an everyday music that everyone listens to. This makes it easy getting the message across and even though not everyone likes to hear about God, but with the genre of music, they will listen to it more.

Meanwhile,I was working of the story of my drama which features two best friend, one is at war and they fall into an issue of love with a woman caught in between them. Roddy suggested we have a sort of twist to the drama so it not predictable and the audience are engaged on whats happening. In this case i decided to change the name to WAR>LOVE>GUILT because two friends form a bond which is developed through out the drama and are guilty that they share an intense moment and later see the shadows of their dead best friend appear.

BLACK MAGIC TUTORIAL WOW THIS CAMERA IS AMAZING!

The timeless beauty of feature film quality to your production work! The Black Magic Camera is the latest digital cinema camera packed with a high resolution sensor and wide dynamic ranges for independent filming. At the tutorial I was told that it is the first camera to include built in metadata entry so files include information that is compatible with popular editing software. You just simply tap the screen to display the slate were you can enter information such as the shot number of your production.

The Black Magic Camera captivates a super wider dynamic range of 13 stops into 12-bit DNG files so that images genuinely look cinematic. The camera handles indoor shots while keeping the details of any images captured through windows. This means you keep all sensor data so you can make creative decisions during DaVinci Resolve color grading.

The camera also comes in two models, depending on the lens mount you want. Therefore, you can use the most amazing optics from the worlds leading lens crafters. With the Black Magic Cinema Camera you are not locked into any specific lens and you can choose the lens you need based on the creative style of your shot.

An amazing ultra scope is also included which gives you technically accurate scopes on any computer connected by Thunderbolt. The Black Magic also uses standard connections. Whilst conducting my final project I was going to use this to film but was not able due to the loan store being over booked. Therefore, I had to film with a Canon D7 which was not to bad thank god for the location.

HAVE FUN WITH THE CAMERA !!!! =D ITS LOOKS LIKE A WORK OF ART AND WORKS LIKE ONE TOO!

WORK EXPERIENCE

Job purpose and reason for working in a media classroom

Working at Leyton Sixth Form College I was given the initiative to support student progression in a media class, under the direction of a line manager by being involved in students educational, social and development curriculum and contributing in its expansion as a member of a team. This work experience will give me a chance to see if working in a classroom would enhance my ability to communicate with young people and explain how media plays a significant role in everyday modern life. I thought that this would be a good occasion to contribute in a learning environment that involves agendas of my study. Also, this will prepare me to develop an understanding of how we perceive the world by teaching students the importance of the media as well as train to become a media teacher

Whilst at Leyton Sixth Form College I was able to hold a cake sale twice for funding my short Drama. Everyone around me was kind and supportive. (Lieberman & Miller, 1999) pointed out that the practice of reflective teaching, reflective inquiry, and reflection-on practice, results in gaining of the personal and professional knowledge that is so important to being an effective teacher and in shaping children's learning. In this case being able to ask ‘what’ and ‘why’ questions give certain powers to individuals as they are concerned about their learning outcomes and transformations of what they learn in an everyday classroom life.

This experience has successfully permitted me to progress my communication skills and meeting the needs of student learning.

The Almighty 'Pitch'! ... Final Project N0.1

Preparing for the real world and showcasing all your talent. I am currently working with another member of my class, Nadine. I will be conducting a short drama and she will be doing a documentary. I shall begin by saying this is frustrating when you have an idea but when it comes to bringing it altogether you are lost for words. Firstly, I like watching all types of movies regardless of the Genre, every film has its own spark, some may be amazing and some may be extremely boring but everyone has their own taste. The current genres I am into are horror, thriller, comedy and romance. Most films we watch now a days are very predictable, but its a form of escapism to distract the audience. I have chosen to select themes such as war, love and guilt to build by final project proposal.

To start with the preparation of the proposal will begin through group meetings and this is with my peer, Nadine. We will aim to brainstorm ideas and watch drama that may have influenced my idea in order to bring out a strong piece across to the audience. the natural flow of ideas and brainstorming is an advantage towards my final idea because it will help develop trust between group members and build a positive relationship. Below I will include my first draft of my short film which is based on war, love and guilt. I chose to combine themes together in order to build an emotion through the characters in my drama.

SYNOPSIS
A tale of two best friends who come to terms with the issue of love, faithfulness and mature hood with a woman caught in-between them.

GENRE
Short drama

DURATION
Maximum 10 minutes. We intend to keep the extract short and simple because it will have a storyline which will be fast due to the shots progressing the idea of what happened before and what is happening now in the drama. We will also be using archive footage to show Tom at war.

AUDIENCE
The target audience for this project will be young adults because it will contain strong language. The plot of the story will reflect a young man who has left for war, and his best friend comes back to see him but finds out he is dead. Meanwhile, he finds himself comforting his best friend’s wife and begins to develop deep feelings for her. This will also target anyone who has been through similar situation where they have loved someone.

EQUIPMENTS
We will be using a JVC 750 camera to shoot the drama. This will be done via single camera work, we will aim to capture the harsh moments at the start where Tom is captured by prisoners in Afghanistan and taken to a village in a dark room. We will also record the sound with a boo microphone.

CREW
Director/Producer: Zaynah Chaumun
Production Manager/Researcher: Nadine Serwaa-Pee
Camera Operator: Abdi Dahir, Moe Daher, Mo
Editor: N/A
Sound Operator:N/A

LOCATION
This drama will be shot indoors and outdoors. The first location will be set in a dark room to portraying the disturbing moment of Tom being captivated by prisoners and him trying to call someone for help. The second location will be James coming back from prison/holiday and wanting to visit his best friend Tom without knowing he is dead. The third shot will be at the Smith’s home and it will  focus on the wife and her receiving a call to state that her husband is dead and the helicopter he was on killed all the men. Fourth location will be in Alexandra palace to show the bond between the friend and his friend’s wife. These locations will alter.

BUDGET
Most of the locations we intend to film at are local. If we need to spend money on props or other objects and travel we will fund them ourselves.

The natural flow of creativity is such a good advantage, which we have in this group. - See more at: http://tairazarrabi.tumblr.com/#sthash.dR9JkO3m.dpuf

SET DESIGN FOR THE LOUNGE

Set designers create the overall look of a theatre, television or film production. In the film and TV industry they are often known as production designers and in the theatre as stage designers.

Typical responsibilities include:

  • reading scripts
  • producing plans, drawings and models of sets
  • preparing estimates of set costs
  • liaising with directors, producers, costume designers and lighting/sound staff etc
  • managing budgets
  • viewing possible outside broadcast sites
  • planning
  • attending rehearsals/film takes
  • meeting with and commissioning set construction companies

During set design we had to paint the floor due to the colours which would reflect the show. The whole set was black and red these colours stood out well. whilst preparing for the set I also had to design the logo. I was told a little to late however i still managed to pull through.

I used a foam board and printed out the title 'THE LOUNGE' on A4 paper and cut out the letter of the foam board. The foam board would then go on the pillars so it can light up.

This is the process of how I cut around the letters. I used a blade and a wooden board at the bottom.

VISION MIXING

Vision mixers cut the camera shots together in any show that is recorded on multiple cameras. This can include studio shows and outside broadcasts, whether pre-recorded or live. They sit next to the director in the gallery and operate a vision mixing desk. They cut and mix between shots, play in taped items and overlay graphics, all on the instructions of the director.

After completing the logo design for 9 hours we did not use it for the studio :(, however the crew was a little unprepared due to pressure and other reasons. there was also little time for set designing which maybe the reason we never used it.

INVISIBLE SCARS
Official Draft

A tale of two best friends who come to terms with the issue of love, faithfulness and mature hood with guilty conscience trapped between them.

Rose Robinson is a 26 year old mother who lives with her child grace. Her high school crush Tom Robinson who became her husband and the father of their child. Tom is currently at war in Afghanistan fighting for his country whilst Rose and Grace continue their life without him but yearn to meet him. Tom writes letters to Rose about his experience and how much he misses her and the family.

This story will be presented using the family’s atmosphere and surroundings. There will be a series of different events which will be evidence for the death of Tom Robinson and how Rose and Grace Robinson cope with the loss of Tom. Secondly we plan to include archive footage at the beginning of the film to show Tom at war in order to give the audience a shot that will start the story off for them. Since the piece focuses on the mother and daughter and her best friend who builds an unbreakable bond it will make the viewers aware of how the situation has changed them and how their life has changed. The camera will follow her surroundings especially Grace and James (friend) who will slowly build a strong relationship. Compiling these images will allow the viewer to picture how one man changed their life. Finally, towards the end the two friends Rose and James develop an attachment which gradually leads to a kiss. Rose pulls away and reminisces about Tom. As Rose tosses and turns in her bed she sees Tom in front of her and as James cleans the kitchen Tom appears right beside him. They are both left with a guilty conscience.

This story is important for me to capture, not only to get a good grade but to tell a story that will comfort the audience but to also challenge myself to do something different. While this drama presents many new challenges it is also an excellent opportunity, one that I wish to take advantage in the near future.

Maximum 10 minutes. We intend to keep the extract short and simple because it will have a storyline which will be fast due to the shots progressing the idea of what happened before and what is happening now in the drama. We will also be using archive footage to show Tom at war. A mock trailer will also be included to shower my module leaders and outline of what the story is about.

The target audience for this project will be young adults the film will include different characters from different backgrounds. This is because we live in a multi cultural society and we want to include that sense of modernity. The plot of the story will reflect a young man who has left for war, and his best friend comes back to see him but finds out he is dead. Meanwhile, he finds himself comforting his best friend’s wife and child and begins to develop deep feelings for her. This will also target anyone who has been through similar situation where they have loved someone.
